Colby Krolak

Colby Krolak has always had a passion for animals and art. Her childhood was spent exploring and observing the nature and wildlife of New Jersey and caring for a wide variety of pets. From a very early age, Colby discovered a love of drawing. Luckily, she was encouraged by her family to pursue her dream of becoming a professional artist. Growing up, she took advantage of every artistic learning experience, always looking to animals and nature for inspiration.

In 2006, Colby was accepted to the duCret School of Art, where she studied techniques in drawing and painting. During her three years at duCret, she practiced with a variety of media (such as oil, acrylic, charcoal, etc…) however; it wasn’t long before she discovered her favored medium. She found that scratchboard was ideal for capturing the fine striking details, texture and luminosity of her subjects. It was also during her time in art school that Colby found a love for painting her illustrations digitally. This new media was perfect for creating whimsical and vibrant paintings.

Whether it is the quiet wisdom of a beloved pet, the cheerful story of a frolicsome chipmunk, or the legacy of a vanishing species, Colby intends to illustrate each creature’s personality, beauty and worth. She believes there is always something to learn from the wild and always room to grow as an artist. With her art, she hopes to convey her love and respect for wildlife and encourages humans of all ages to appreciate and learn from the natural world around them.

Colby Krolak is a contributing member of the World Wildlife Fund, Defenders of Wildlife and is a supporter of the Woodlands Wildlife Refuge in Pittstown New Jersey. She is currently working in collaboration with Woodland’s on illustrating a children’s book to raise money for their refuge
