Bio
My name is John Buono, your instructor. A native Californian I was raised in San Diego, and went to college in Berkeley. After graduation I spent 20 years in the Army and retired as a Major. During that time, I was a Communications and Automation officer, which means I spent a lot of time with computers, networks, satellite, microwave, etc. So I ended up with a lot of real hands on experience in the field of computers and telecommunications, from micro to main frames and hand cranked telephones to the Internet.
My first experience with a computer was as a Junior in college on an IBM mainframe (360). We used to have to stand in line to turn our jobs (a stack of cards) in, wait 24 hours, and then go and pick up the results (normally a stack of error messages). When we went on tour of the Lawrence Laboratory they had an interactive terminal on a 360, we all looked at it in awe. The thought of being able to directly type a program in at a terminal was mind boggling.

I originally was in the field of education, but made a switch to computers and networking. During my 20 years in the military I lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Washington state, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Korea, and finally my current home in Arizona. While in the Army I was a Signal Officer with a both tactical and strategic communications experience. You may have heard of one of my first internet project, it was called email.

After retiring from the Army, I worked as a defense contractor for 10 years. During that time I was a tester for communications protocols, and served on a number of telecommunications and computer standards committees. I became heavily involved in the internet, thus developing my specialty of electronic mail (both SMTP and x.400).

I have worked in software development, software testing, virtually all current operating systems, and just about every phase of software engineering. Which leading to a unique specialization in Software Quality control, and bein
