Bio
Laurice Lanier, of Jackson, Tennessee, is a graduate of the Juilliard School. Laurice is taking the world by storm. She has performed the role of Dido in the 2001 undergraduate production of Dido & Aeneas. Other roles include Ma in The Tender Land, Anna Hope in The Mother of Us All, and the Third Lady in The Magic Flute. Her solo performances include Handel’s Messiah with the Metropolitan Baptist Church of Washington D.C., Brahm’s Alto Rhapsody, de Falla’s El Amor Brujo with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, and 2001 Spiritual Concert Series for the Gaby Leib Producoes Culturais in Sao Pao, Brazil, Rio di Janeiro, Brazil and the capital, Brasilia. Awards include Outstanding Musician Award at the Interlochen Arts Camp, and Most Outstanding Musician Award at the Hartwick College Summer Music Festival & Institute. Summer of 1998, Laurice received a scholarship to attend Opera Works Intensive Study at the University of California at Northridge. Summer of 2001, Laurice received a full scholarship to attend The Music Academy of the West under the direction of Marilyn Horne in Santa Barbara, California. January 2002, at Tennessee’s capital hill, she opened the Tennessee General Assembly with a performance if America the Beautiful. February 2002, director Baz Luhrmann selected Laurice for the cast of Puccini’s La Boheme that began on Broadway October of 2002. Because of Laurice’s outstanding achievements, TN House Representative Matt Kisber, February 2002, presented the TN House of Representatives with a written proclamation giving accolades to Laurice Lanier. April 2002, Laurice performed the role of Juno in Juilliard’s 2002 production of John Eccles’ Semele. July 2002, Laurice presented a recital for the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority’s National Convention in Miami Florida.
