“Life is a Dream” features work from two recognized Bulgarian artists, ceramicist Iskra Ivanova and painter Vassilen Vasevski.

ISKRA IVANOVA

Born in Varna, Bulgaria, Iskra nurtured and developed her personal artistic style while studying Art History in Madrid, Spain. Her work has been featured in New York and Chicago, as well as internationally. In Houston, Ivanova taught at institutions including the Glassel School and the University of Houston. She currently lives in Colorado and is expecting a child.

Her work explores themes of human existence through a unique dedication to her materials. The clay she uses is taken directly from the earth, alluding to the universality of Nature-a force able to transcend cultural, national, and historical differences. The elegant forms she creates honor the richness of the material with all its subtlety of color and texture.

VASSILEN VASEVSKI

Vassilen was born in Sliven, Bulgaria and began painting at a young age as a means of self-expression. He has displayed his works in the U.S. and Europe and participated in more than 80 group shows. Even today he considers his profession a continual means of finding inner peace and harmony.

Vassilen's paintings can best be described as "metaphysical romanticism"--a style that derives its ambiguity and mystery from the artist's own memories, dreams, and expectations. The soft light of Vassilen's palette emanates through the canvas, connecting the artist's inner self with the outer world.
