I was a cook for three years at a restaurant. It was a grueling, fast past job that required long hours and major cleaning, organizing, and me working under a great deal of pressure. I then became a barista at Starbucks for three years and loved the "cushiness" of the job. It involved a lot people skills. While I was at both jobs, I developed and remedied several characteristics that would later help me in my own field. As a recording engineer, I have to meet new people everyday. I have to be a people person all of the time. While recording them, I have to work under the clock as well. I don't want my talent to feel any anxiety about the cost of tracking and mixing. So I work under the pressure of that notion. Artists work better when they are focused on the task at hand.
