Matt Macagno

Bio
Well you want my life story? Guess I'll give you the short version. Grew up in a little desert town in southern califronia, needed to get out of dodge so at 17 signed up for the US Air Force, did 6 years there, stationed at Nellis (Las Vegas, NV) repairing rescue helicopter electronics. Got out in 2005 and moved to Oregon, simply because I have always loved the natural beauty of the place. Did some jobs there but decided to be closer to family (my sister and newborn nephew) and settle on a place to start my career transition (didn't like electronics much but I LOVE biology, especially the biology of the brain, neuroscience). So here I am, did a quick 6 month tour in Denver (didnt like it much) and been here in Colroado Springs in May of '08 and lovin it!

Racquetball

Category: Sports / Recreation
Description
Got pretty good at racquetball while in the military, love the game, it can get really strategic. I played in tournaments while in the Air Force then after while working at Intel.
Relevant Education / Credentials
Just simple learning from others.
Years Experience: 5

Tennis

Category: Sports / Recreation
Description
Got into tennis only a few years back. Great transition from racquetball but I keep forgetting not to hit the ball so hard (like in racquetball lol). I'm meet with people regularly now to practice tennis (while it is summer), and am at about 1.5/2.0 skill level.
Relevant Education / Credentials
Three 1.0 tennis lessons in OR One 1.5 tennis lesson in OR Four 1.0 tennis lessons in CO
Years Experience: 2

Fencing

Category: Sports / Recreation
Description
(Sabre fencing specifially) Absolutely love this strategic game of physical chess. It kind of gets you in touch with your human history too in a way, swordfighting was the way battles were fought! It definitely is physical chess though.
Relevant Education / Credentials
Eight beginner fencing courses in OR
Years Experience: 2

Guitar

Category: Music
Description
Got into the art of learning chords, picking, and what not a couple years back. Fun instrument to play! I like trying to learn songs from my favorite rock bands, and the way I've been teaching myself so far is to pick a song and take it step by step. Takes quite a while.
I CAN read sheet music (tabs)
Relevant Education / Credentials
Six 30-minute guitar lessons sessions while in OR
Years Experience: 2

Piano

Category: Music
Description
I say Piano (wish I had one) but use the simple yamaha keyboard. Again beautiful instrument when you know how to play it! And again, I usually pick out a song I like and take it step by step in learning it.
I can ready the sheet music just fine, though often find myself doing the old 'Every Good Boy Does Fine' sheet music translation from time to time.
Relevant Education / Credentials
One year of musical keyboard instruction in high school
Years Experience: 9

Kendo

Category: Sports / Recreation
Description
Took this as a fun 2-handed option in comparison to fencing. Have little to no experience in it (other than messing around with kendo sticks on occasion) Really want to learn it
Relevant Education / Credentials
None
Years Experience: 1
