Scott Robert Harvey was born in Fulton, NY in 1957. He grew up in New Mexico, Georgia and Kansas and spent a few years in Texas before moving to Reno. He was a charter member of the Kansas Academy of Oil Painters, which now hosts the National Small Oil Painting Exhibition. In addition to judge’s recommendations by Franklin Smith (1986) and hosting and helping to organize for the same competition in 1994 for Judge Charles Movalli, Mr. Harvey has given demonstrations for the Academy, including an artist’s demonstration at the Coutts Museum in El Dorado, Kansas. He also teaches painting on both individual and class levels at his studio in Reno, Nevada.
For the first ten years of his career, he was a billboard painter. During most of his life, he has also created and sold many small paintings (he considers anything that can fit through a door to be small). He then entered the graphic design field, culminating with the Art Direction of Eagle Enterprises, Inc. in Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Harvey has been a member of the AIGA and the ADAC of Sacramento (an affiliation membership). A patented invention carried him to the Dallas area and then around the US and Europe in the late nineties. A brief excursion into fine dining then followed, with Mr. Harvey becoming the Head Chef at the Greenhouse Restaurant in Denton, Texas, and serving as sous chef and interim exec at Arrowcreek. He moved to Reno in December of 2000.
In 2003, Mr. Harvey took the leap into mural painting, which returned him to his roots (billboard painter) in his career as an artist. Mr. Harvey is represented by the Galleries at Wildflower Village in Reno. His mural painting is through his own business, Metropolis Art Studio, and he collaborates with Fox Interiors of Reno. Mr. Harvey was a Dean’s Honor Roll student at Wichita State University in Art Education, but is not degreed.
