I am a trilingual language/grammar/writing freak with an international background and live in Las Vegas, Nevada, where I run a small business, Twin Translations (www.twintranslations.com). It's not true that we all live in hotels and work as showgirls (or cocktail waitresses)! While the large majority of people work in the hospitality industry in Vegas, there are also lots of professionals, and a small community of highly qualified professional translators. I currently serve on the Board of Directors of the newly formed Nevada Interpreters and Translators Association (NITA) and I am an active member of the American Translators Association (ATA). My twin sister and I run our boutique translation and copy writing business, Twin Translations, out of Vegas and Vienna, Austria, enabling us to work for our clients around the clock -- time differences are a beautiful thing.
Besides being a translator, citizen of the world, and identical twin, I am also a Vegas expert, and have reviewed shows and restaurants for a major travel site for many years while running the Spanish-language division of this online travel company. A lot of my translations have been focused on the hospitality industry, but I also have a lot of experience in legal, financial, technical, and IT-related (especially e-commerce) texts.
I was born in Austria and grew up in Mexico City. Ergo, my two native languages are German (NOT Austrian) and Spanish (NOT Mexican). I came to the US on a full tennis scholarship and played NCAA 1 at UNLV, where I also went to graduate school to get an M.B.A. in Marketing. I figured it's better (in terms of financial success) to have a business degree than one in liberal arts.
It certainly was fulfilling to get my M.B.A., but now I am back to doing what I love the most: translating, playing with words and language, creating marketing texts, and collecting grammar mistakes. My translation blog is http://translationtimes.blogspot.com.
