Christina Longstaffe

Although born in Canada, I spent my formative years in London, England. I became a world traveler by the age of 21, backpacking and sketching my way across the globe. I came to the U.S. in 1986 and began a small custom art business called, “Creative Canvas”. While painting and running the business, along with raising three sons, I worked on a B.F.A. in Graphic Design and attained a B.A. in Studio Art from California State University of Fullerton. I began my teaching career at a private school for Chinese and Taiwanese students in Rowland Heights and then moved on to teaching Fine Art at Garey High School, Pomona in 1998. I recently attained a M.Sc. in Educational Administration and have worked within my school district as a master teacher, mentoring new teachers at various school sites. Along with creating College Board approved Advanced Placement Studio Art curriculum and guiding my students to win many prestigious art awards, I and my students have done volunteer artwork for many organizations ranging from cleaning up graffiti covered murals at a local elementary school, to painting part of the giant mural in the foyer at The Children’s Hospital of L.A. Both I and my students were honored with a Proclamation from the City of Pomona and my art program has received both local and national acclaim. My students have painted over 30 murals throughout the city of Pomona for the Cultural Arts Commission and have done work for renowned artist Judy Chicago. Additionally, along with winning numerous citywide competitions, my students have won Congressional art competitions where students have been flown to Washington D.C. twice to win awards and have their artwork hung in the Canon Tunnel. I was recently nominated for a Bravo Award from The Music Center of Los Angeles.
