Lindsey Rourke

My name is Lindsey Rourke and I was born and raised in New Milford, CT. I went through the New Milford Public School System and graduated from New Milford High School in May 2000. From there, I went to Pace University in Pleasantville, New York and received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and my Master's Degree in Educational Technology. I did my student teaching at JFK Magnet School in Port Chester, NY and at Pleasantville High School in Pleasantville, NY. After graduating from college, I subbed in the New Milford School System and in the Region 12 School System before starting my summer job at The New Milford Children's Center in July.

I had worked at the Children's Center since I was a junior in high school. It started as an after school job during the school year and turned into a summer job during my college years. When I did not get a teaching job after graduating from college, I started working at the Children's Center full-time for two years until landing my current job at Canterbury School. While at the Children's Center I worked with children from 3 months to 8 years of age and gained great experience.

It was hard for me to leave the Children's Center but it was just an interim job until I found what I was looking for. In August of 2007, I was hired at Canterbury School to work in the technology department. I love it there and love working with technology, but I miss working with little children. That is where this came about. I started tutoring for a family that I had met at The Children's Center and absolutely loved it and loved the one-on-one attention I could give to the child, without the distractions of the everyday classroom. I have such a passion for teaching but just haven't gotten the opportunity to do it for a living yet. I am hoping that more families will invite me into their lives to help touch the lives of their children as well. Sometimes a little one-on-one is all your child needs to make that difference.
