The Medical Assistant program prepares individuals to assist physicians in their offices or other medical settings. Medical Assistants perform a wide range of duties in the physician’s practice. The Medical Assistant is responsible for medical and surgical asepsis, taking vital signs, assisting the physician with examinations and surgery, administering ECG’s, and administering medications. The business/administrative duties include patient reception, appointment making, recordkeeping, filing, bookkeeping, insurance handling, typing medical correspondence and transcription, and microcomputer applications. Laboratory functions include specimen collection, performance of basic laboratory tests, and microscopic work.
Upon completion of this 24 week program, graduates will receive a course completion certificate.

Rick Foehr, MICP, AS, BA
Mr. Foehr, the founder of EMSTA College, has been a licensed paramedic for over 30 years in San Diego County. He has a lifetime teaching credential in Health Sciences from California Community Colleges and has more than 25 years pre-hospital teaching experience. He is a former firefighter paramedic with the Santee Fire Department and retired from American Medical Response after serving as a middle manager and field paramedic. It is his vision of educating students to be the most competent and compassionate care givers in the field of emergency pre-hospital medicine that has become the guiding principle of EMSTA College.
