Bio
In 2002 I quit my job and became a stay at home mom. After the adjustment to being home full time, I started asking that big question.

What exactly am I supposed to be doing?

Fast forward to the summer of 2005, I was selling dream pillows at a show in Michigan. A friend of mine brought something called “Gourd Woman” to sell. She explained it was time to find her a new home. I couldn’t keep away. She drew me in with her simple primal persona. The crazy thought of “Gourdesses, I can make Gourdesses!” kept popping in my head. She seemed to whisper of new paths and that something magnificent was underway. Gourd Woman had found her new home and I had discovered one of those things I’m supposed to be doing.

What is it about the unassuming gourd that stirs my creative muse?

They satiate my desire to create and are one of the most versatile mediums I’ve found. Gourds can be burned, carved, painted, stained, molded, coiled, embellished, and the list goes on. They are Mother Nature’s ultimate canvas in my humble opinion. Gourds can be functional and practical or take you on a whimsical journey into complete silliness and hooey.

I embark upon a treasure hunt when I work with gourds. Hidden underneath their seemingly unlovely exterior is something beautiful waiting to be uncovered. Sometimes I can simply look at one and see the end result or I have to ask for a volunteer for an inspired creation. I swear they wave their stems as if whispering, “Pick me! Pick me!”

It is my joy to share with you the treasures I’ve discovered.
