Nina Florence McGrath, Director of the Academy of Fine Arts at St. Philip’s College, received her B.A. in Theatre Arts in 1982 from St. Edward’s University, Magna Cum Laude. Her production credits include Butterflies are Free, starring Yvonne de Carlo; The Lady’s Not for Burning, starring the late Sandy Dennis and directed by Noel Harrison; The Taming of the Shrew, starring Tim Matheson; and Equus, starring Peter Mark Richman. Mrs. McGrath toured nationally in 1984 as Production Stage Manager with Annie Get your Gun and A Christmas Carol. She spent two seasons as Production Stage Manager/Assistant Director for Houston Grand Opera’s touring company: Texas Opera Theatre. Representative productions include: Barber of Seville, La Traviata, Carmen, Die Fledermaus, and a new works world-premiere project: One Aria Opera. She accepted a summer residency with Atlanta Opera, as Production Stage Manager for Lucia de Lammermoor. For the 1986-1987 season, she was an Assistant Production Manager and Production Stage Manager for Fort Worth Opera productions including The Marriage of Figaro, La Gioconda, and La Boheme.


With Arts San Antonio, Nina managed a variety of events, including Boys Choir of Harlem and Stars of the Boston Ballet and an outdoor production of Madame Butterfly. She was Executive Producer for the 1995 San Antonio Shakespeare-in-the-Park’s critically acclaimed production of Othello, directed by Noel Harrison. During 1995-97, she created and produced “Shakespeare-for-the-Schools”, a variety of excerpts from the works of the Bard, which toured both in San Antonio and Houston. She was a Guest Director/Stage Manager for the San Antonio Symphony’s New Year’s Eve 1996 Gala, The Merry Widow, with Christopher Wilkins conducting. Mrs. McGrath wrote The Pancake and The Fox as Shepherd for the St. Philip’s College Academy of Fine Arts Summer 2009 production of the “The 3 Billy Goats Gruff and other tales from Norway”.
