Marty Isenberg is a trained composer and bassist with a passion for teaching. He recently graduated with a jazz performance degree with a concentration in composition from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, where he studied bass privately with jazz luminary Mark Helias, and many other world renowned musicians. One of his current projects is leading his 14-piece band, the Marty Isenberg Big Band, where he composes, conducts, and plays bass. The band has cut an EP at Excello Studios in Williamsburg, and has performed at the Bowery Poetry Club, Asterix, and Arnold Hall in New York City.

Marty has taught at the Litchfield Jazz Festival and has been teaching privately since 2003. He attended the Educational Center for the Arts from 2002 to 2004 and the Center for Creative Youth in the summer of 2003. Marty was also an intern for jazz composer Maria Schneider and her Jazz Orchestra.
As a composer, Marty has done arranging work for the “Turtle’s Mass” by composer Peter Agnos, scored two student films, "On the Can" and "Bowery Scenes", and was the musical consultant on the film "The Best Man", winner of the second Best in Show Award at the Hofstra Film Festival. He conducted his own composition, “Dreamer's ni” at the Jazz and Animation multi-media collaboration, "Tones" at Theresa Lang Hall. His works have also been performed by Ned Rothenberg, Gerry Hemmingway, Mary Halvorson & Jessica Pavone, Sylvie Courvoisier, Rachel Z, Mark Helias, and the Mannes Woodwind Quintet.
As a bassist, Marty is a versatile and experienced performer, playing both the electric and upright bass. He was featured on the radio with The New School Sun-Ra ensemble, has performed with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and many other local bands
