Bio
John Sherman Lathram lll (b. 1962- Lexington KY) is a mixed-media artist whose work incorporates many aspects of technology: digital photography, video, robotics, biological systems and computer software.

His work incorporates and exaggerates the poetic combination of communication between living and non-living systems using the computer, software and sensors as the "translator".

His current photographic studies explore the body image of fringe subcultures as defined by historical essays and articles as well as current socio-political events. His images often draw upon the parallels of cultural idioms and addresses “taboo” cultural situations by conjoining juxtaposed cultural icons.

His works have appeared in New York, under well-received reviews in the New York Times, as well as several Columbus venues. John's works discuss the complexities current to the issues of combined systems of natural and synthetic objects.

Mr. Lathram graduated from The Ohio State University in 2004 with an MFA in Art and Technology. He is an Adjunct professor in the Integrated Media Department where he teaches A business of Photography class and Aesthetics and Design class in Digital Photography. He also serves as youth lecturer for the Wexner Center Summer Youth Art Series and is a member of several local and national Arts organizations.

Currently, he is working on a photo-book on Columbus drag culture.

More About Me
I come from a self taught painter and medical (veterinarian and show dog breeder and groomer) background, my work is widely dispersed. As an artist who constantly reads anything from trashy pulp fiction novels to my monthly subscriptions to Dwell Magazine, Food and Wine, Photonics, Scientific American, Utne Reader, and anything in between, my interests and hopefully my artwork reflects this.

In addition to my readings, I am an avid landscaper, knowing the latin names of way to many species of plant life, I have designed for Roche Bobois (exclusive and luxurious furniture company) in the late eighties, tended bar at exclusive now defunct disco’s in New York, bred world Champion poodles, lived in the ghetto’s of both New York and Columbus, teach, tend bar and have come close to death twice. I love life, live life and crave the learning experience that life has to offer.
