Bio
I am a Butoh teacher, Butoh dancer and choreographer from France. I am also the artsistic Director of the Vangeline Theater, a dance company firmly rooted in the tradition of Japanese Butoh while carrying it into the 21st century.
I teach Butoh and movement at high schools, colleges, and coach actors, students, dancers, students, privately.
I also teach a weekly Butoh class open to beginners in New York.

Work Experience:
Vangeline is a dancer, teacher and choreographer from France. She is currently the Artistic Director of the Vangeline Theater, a Dance company firmly rooted in the tradition of Japanese Butoh. The Vangeline Theater’s mission statement is to educate the public through performances and workshops, and to utilize dance and various forms of artistic explorations as healing tools for our community.

Venues and festivals where Vangeline’s critically acclaimed choreographed works have been presented include Joyce SoHo, White Wave, Here Arts Center, Dance Theater Workshop, Galapagos Art Space, PS122 Performance Space, Theater for The New City, ththe Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, the Puffin Room, Abrons Arts Center, Links Hall Chicago, the Howl Festival, the New York Butoh Festival, Art in Odd Places, the New York Cool Festival, the Lower East Side Festival for the Arts, and Chashama.

Currently, Vangeline is an artist-in-residence at the Field New York. She has taught Butoh workshops and classes at New York University, Brooklyn College, STAC, Battery Dance company, Links Hall, The Jewish Community Center, Bikram Yoga Chelsea, and Bayview Correctional facility in Manhattan. She also coaches actors, singers and performers privately on specific performance projects.

Vangeline first started studying Butoh, a Japanese style of Ritual Dance, with Diego Piñón from the Butoh Ritual Mexicano. While studying with Diego, she furthered her body exploration through the study of therapies including, Bioenergetics, Core Energetics, and Gestalt; as well as theater techniques, especially Ritual Theater. She also learned Alexander and Klein Release techniques.

She was invited to Japan to deepen her study of Japanese Butoh by Master Tetsuro Fukuhara and trained and performed with him in Tokyo. Among her other teachers are the renowned Butoh masters Yoshito Ohno, Akira Kasai, Katsura Kan.
