Allen Ethan Barkus

Allen Barkus, middle name Ethan, was born 1959 in Philadelphia. He is single and considered to be one of the most eligible bachelors in the U.S. He is best known for being the Chairman and owner of the Ted Barkus Company, now ranked by Advertising Age Magazine as the #25 ranked independent advertising and marketing agency in the U.S. The Ted Barkus Company was founded by Allen's father, Theodore "Ted" Barkus in 1958. Ted Barkus was born in 1925 and passed in the year 2000 of Alzheimer's and other complications. Allen worked part time at the agency and joined full time after studying at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, shortly afterwards became the creative director and became president of the agency in 1988. Allen Barkus is also publisher if the Travelore Report travel newsletter, published monthly since 1971, with 80,000 paid subscribers. Allen is also well known for his volunteer activities, especially overseeing a program called Cook-For-A-Friend that prepares meals that go to elderly shut-ins since 1995, participating in the program since 1989. Allen has personally supervised the preparation of over 100,000 meals. Allen was also a Big Brother, ran volunteer programs at the Philadelphia Geriatric Center for 14 years, and has been involved with several other volunteer programs. Allen is also practices and teaches Ashtanga yoga, his teacher being Manju Jois. Manju's father, K. Pattabhi Jois whom recently passed in 2009 at almost 94 years old, originated the modern Ashtanga practice. Allen is also a constant world traveler both for adventure and luxury, enjoys hiking/mountain climbing, plays tennis, and rides/jumps horses.
