Eighteen year old Philo Lee began playing cello at the age of eight. In 2002, he entered The Juilliard School Pre-College Division where he currently studies with André Emelianoff. He has also studied with Brooke Beazely Cyzewski, Ann Alton and William Stokking.

In the summer of 2004, Philo placed first in the Hartwick College Summer Music Festival Concerto Competition and performed Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme with the festival orchestra. He won first place in the Junior “B” Division, and also won the grand prize of the ASTA NJ State Solo Competition (2006), and first place in the Juilliard Pre-College Elgar Cello Concerto Competition (2006). He has also received third place in the New Jersey Symphony Young Artists Auditions in 2007. Some of the past summer music festivals that Philo has attended include the Killington Summer Music Festival, the Hartwick College Summer Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music and the Great Mountains Music Festival in Korea.

Philo has participated in various performances including many chamber, orchestral, choral, benefit concerts and solo performances. He has performed in halls such as Peter Jay Sharp Theater and Alice Tully Hall for chamber and orchestral performances, Paul and Morse Halls at Juilliard for solo recitals, the Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall for a solo performance, and the Pearlman Theater of the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia for a benefit concert. Some of the orchestra’s he has soloed with include the Hartwick College and Summer Music Festival Orchestra, Adelphi Symphony Orchestra, The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra. He has also appeared on the radio show “From the Top” in 2007. As an amateur conductor, he has served his church by conducting his church’s youth orchestra. Philo has also participated in many master classes including those of Peter Wiley, Hans Jorge Jensen, and Aldo Parisot.

I am looking to give cello lessons any age but preferably ages 10-18 (as I am 18). These lessons will only continue until I have to leave for college I am attending (Yale University) which is around the last week of August. Lessons would be wherever you would choose.
